Dad and the ’54 Hudson Hornet

Saturday, October 27th, 2007

hh3.jpgAt right is a photo of Dad with his 1954 Hudson Hornet. He purchased this car in the Fall of 2001, drove it for a while after getting it up and running, and then spent two years meticulously restoring it to its nearly-original form (and color). He and Vicki have won ample awards showing this car at various exclusive car shows in the area, namely the prestigious Concours d’Elegance shows, since he completed restoration in the Summer of 2004. This year alone, they took Best in Class at the Ault Park Concours d’Elegance in Cincinnati and Second in Class at the Keeneland Concours d’Elegance in Lexington, Kentucky. 1k9.jpgAfter our whirl around the Haunted Mansion – which Adam did not care for – we headed back over to the Hall of Presidents to catch the next showing. As a Presidential buff, I always eat up this attraction and will be anxious to see the representation of our 44th President during one of my next visits. For now, I’ll have to be satisfied with the speech of President Bush. Our wait wasn’t short, so we browsed the Presidential artifacts and watched Adam get his diaper change and swing on the velvet rope partitions. This attraction concluded our visit to Liberty Square. non2.jpgMost people wouldn’t know Jack O’Halloran from a jack-o’-lantern if it wasn’t for his appearance as Non, the mute super villain from the planet Krypton in Superman and Superman II. I, of course, have a Superman fetish so I was well aware of who he was. Therefore I had already requested that Bob pick me up an autographed photo of him when he made an appearance at a Hollywood Collectors Show. And naturally when I saw him at a later show in October of 2005, I rushed over to him and asked if I could pose for a photo with him. Read the rest of this entry »

aa.jpgWednesday, August 8, 2007 represented the mid-point of our travels across the great state of Virginia and was the last day during which we stuck to our agressive itinerary. We had stayed at a Super 8 Motel in Appomattox, so our first order of business was to grab our complimentary continental breakfast. From there, as you might guess, we headed to the site of the famous signing of of the confederate surrender by General Robert E. Lee. Apparently this village was actually called Appomattox Court House, while the signing of the surrender itself took place in the house of Wilmer McLean rather than in an actual courthouse. am8.jpgDenise, Aaron, Ashleigh, and I arrived at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World at about 10:00am, fresh from a quick morning at Disney’s Animal Kingdom. Here we met up with Mom, Bob, and little Adam – who was ready for a day of fun that he will never remember. They were already inside the park and waiting for us. The bus had taken them from our room directly to the Magic Kingdom without stopping at the Ticket and Transportation Center. This was unprecedented as Walt Disney’s vision had always been to give the illusion that the Magic Kingdom was on a ‘faraway island.’ Read the rest of this entry »
