Fiesta at Karen and Joe’s New Casa

kar5.jpgI was a bit late in arriving at Karen and Joe’s new house in Kettering on Coke Avenue. Chris and Sarah had come over that Saturday afternoon of June 23, 2007, and watched Hitchcock’s Shadow of a Doubt. Their original intention was to watch Rebecca but it was longer and would have made us later. Sarah prepared her snacks in the kitchen for the latter half of the movie while an unimpressed Chris and I finished watching it. Hi, I’m Larry…

larry.jpgThis one is a quickie. William Sanderson wasn’t even on the guest list for the Winter 2007 Hollywood Collectors Show, but on the afternoon of Friday, February 16 – there he was, a bonus addtion to the celebrities in attendence selling their autographs. If you don’t recognize him without the ski cap, he was the fella that played the bizarre leader of the trio of brothers Larry, Daryl, and Daryl on the tv sit-com Newhart. This was one of my all-time favorite shows – although I thought that L, D & D’s appearances eventually became a distracting interruption to the proceedings. Nevertheless, this was the second of the three that I was thrilled to be able to meet, the first being ‘the other brother Daryl’ in 2005. Read the rest of this entry »

ab.jpgFollowing our enjoyable afternoon with Lois Laurel Hawes, Jimmy and I rushed over to Mori’s Teppan Grill, a Japanese steakhouse, where we were to meet up with the elder Wileys, the Duffs, and David. This was to be my very last evening with my California friends. As vacation time nears its end, it seems the clock is set into rapid-rotating motion. It felt like I had been out West for a month with all of the activity we had packed in, but now it was down to the wire – a relaxing evening with my friends at the steakhouse and then dessert at Dave’s place. Dinner was good, and everyone seemed chipper -despite our tardiness. John ate like three bowls of rice which seemed an incredible feat to me. Read the rest of this entry »
