Grumble Fish

I meant no disrespect to actor Vincent Spano, but sometimes you have to draw a line in the sand. He had had a pretty significant roll in the Francis Ford Coppolla directed Rumble Fish, the film that followed the other S.E. Hinton novel-based Coppolla movie The Outsiders. I frankly never liked Rumble Fish anywhere near as much as The Outsiders, but I still thought that Vincent Spano would be a cool encounter to have under my belt when he appeared at the Hollywood Show in Burbank on February 11, 2012. But it wasn’t worth $50 for the autograph/photo op combo. So it’s situations like this that I take my grumbling to the handler and see what can be done. Read the rest of this entry »
I guess you can probably tell by now that I have an affinity for the films of the Friday the 13th series. I’m not sure exactly why I enjoy them or have been taken in by the lore, but it’s obviously become a quest to collect encounters with the Jasons and some of the more prominent cast members. And now come the directors… I’m not sure how deep I’ll get into this (or even where the opportunities will stop), but there was really no question as to whether I was going to get an autograph and photo with Sean S. Cunningham, who is generally credited with being the creator of the entire franchise. 
The technical term for his condition is hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia, but the net of that is that he looks a bit different from the lot of us. I’m sure most people that run into him on the streets are left with that nagging feeling that they’ve seen him before, and that he was a great big jerk. But that’s just the film legacy that Michael Berryman has left behind. My first exposure to him was when he played the principal in the Smokin’ in the Boys Room video by Mötley Crüe. You know, the guy who had his toupee yanked off at the end.
