zuzu1At least that’s what Teacher says. At least that’s what Zuzu says. I’m referring of course to the classic Christmas film It’s a Wonderful Life, and for those who have lived under a rock all their lives and never seen it, you can actually catch this clip as a film within the film National Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation. Ringing a bell? Well good, another angel just took flight. Read the rest of this entry »

Striker, Striker…

Friday, December 19th, 2014

ap6Airplane! is one of those movies that just never seems to get old. Its utter zaniness and self-referential comedy was unprecedented at the time that it came out in 1980 and it spawned not only its own sequel, but countless films that approached humor in the same way. At the center of the film is actor Robert Hays, who portrayed the film’s protagonist Ted Striker. It would be hard to imagine the part in the hands of any other actor, but it might also be argued, that this, Hays’ first feature film role, typecasted him so badly that he scarcely found additional film work. The Beverly Hillbillies

bh4I was late getting into The Beverly Hillbillies. I’m not embarrassed by this, as it seemed to be the type of stupid rural fodder, which on the surface seemed like low-quality programming. But at some point a few years back, I decided to buckle down and give the show a chance, having heard that the early black and white episodes were among the best. Jimmy Hunt

Tuesday, December 2nd, 2014

jh2What can I say? I have an affinity for child actors… especially if they worked back in the black and white days. Jimmy Hunt met both qualifications, so I greeted him at the Chiller Theatre Show in Parsippany, New Jersey, on October 27, 2012. I’m sure to some, the movie Invaders from Mars is classic 50’s science fiction at its finest…but I wouldn’t know because I’ve never seen it. But what I can tell you is that the Jimmy Hunt as young boy named David MacLean is the center of the story. That’s pretty darn cool. Read the rest of this entry »

Dale & Tucker & Carolyn & Brad vs. Evil

Wednesday, November 26th, 2014

dt7Had it not been for the film Tucker & Dale vs. Evil, I likely would not have been interested in getting autographs and photo ops with the two leads in its cast. The film had initially been recommended on Leonard Maltin’s website, and I could not figure out for the life of me what could be so great about it, but once I saw it I understood. If you’re in for a bloody good time – and I do mean bloody – then I recommend this movie highly, because unlike most films of this nature, its utterly hilarious (in the good way). If you don’t believe me, check it out for yourself. Read the rest of this entry »
