Planting the Lemon Tree

Monday, January 27th, 2014

trini2To my credit, singer Trini Lopez only cracked the top 20 twice, so it’s not all that unusual that I really had never heard of him prior to the early 1990’s. Both of these songs, If I Had a Hammer and Lemon Tree, were cover songs at that. But the later of the two achieved a iconic status for a whole other reason than being a passably catchy tune…at least to me. Yes, it may sound weird but I learned about Trini Lopez from watching Seinfeld, in which they used the song as a minor plot device. Read the rest of this entry »

Bond Girls – Part 3

Monday, January 20th, 2014

bondgxMy secret spy operation of collecting autographs from and photo with the so-called ‘Bond girls’ of the James Bond film continued. The rule of thumb is generally that if you find one Bond girls, you’ll probably find at least one more at the same show. At the case of the Chiller Theatre show in Parsippany, New Jersey, on April 28, 2012, this was precisely the case. Lorenzo Lamas

ll1I pretty much never ever ever pay any mind to the soap opera stores that show up at the autograph shows from time to time. But I’ll admit that Lorenzo Lamas’ name is so deeply rooted in my head as the quintessential soap star that I went ahead and got him when he appeared at the Hollywood Show on April 21, 2012. To be honest, at the time I got him I couldn’t have named one single show that he had been in, but there are just same names that you know could have the potential to be a conversation starter…especially with a hairy chest like that!  Read the rest of this entry »

The Green Hornet

Friday, December 27th, 2013

gh1As a lover of superheroes and comic book lore, although I am not a comic book reader, adding the actor that played masked vigilante The Green Hornet in the TV series of the same name was a must. The show which ran just one season from 1966-1967 has become legendary mostly because martial artist Bruce Lee was the co-star of the series. It also remains a sought-after show because it is currently unavailable on DVD. Therefore I have never seen it. Read the rest of this entry »
