Camp Director

Wednesday, October 30th, 2013

sssI guess you can probably tell by now that I have an affinity for the films of the Friday the 13th series. I’m not sure exactly why I enjoy them or have been taken in by the lore, but it’s obviously become a quest to collect encounters with the Jasons and some of the more prominent cast members. And now come the directors… I’m not sure how deep I’ll get into this (or even where the opportunities will stop), but there was really no question as to whether I was going to get an autograph and photo with Sean S. Cunningham, who is generally credited with being the creator of the entire franchise. Read the rest of this entry »

Don’t Judge a Mutant By His Cover

Wednesday, October 23rd, 2013

mbxThe technical term for his condition is hypohidrotic ectodermal dysplasia, but the net of that is that he looks a bit different from the lot of us. I’m sure most people that run into him on the streets are left with that nagging feeling that they’ve seen him before, and that he was a great big jerk. But that’s just the film legacy that Michael Berryman has left behind. My first exposure to him was when he played the principal in the Smokin’ in the Boys Room video by Mötley Crüe. You know, the guy who had his toupee yanked off at the end. Read the rest of this entry »

Mackenzie’s Not Grungy, She’s Bitchin’

Wednesday, October 16th, 2013

mp1Yes, there have been some sordid details about Mackenzie Phillip’s private life that have been fed to the wide-eyed public for consumption, and the details came from Mackenzie herself in her tell-all autobiography High on Arrival. I won’t go into them here because a cursory google search can fill you in, and I really have no interest in her private life. But I still think she’s bitchin’ – and that’s because at age 13 she nearly stole the show right out from a brilliant cast in one of my all-time favorite films American Graffiti. Fred

aa1For such a sweet and beautiful girl, I always thought that ‘Fred Burkle’ was such an ugly name. But after a while it didn’t seem to matter as she progressed through the third, fourth, and fifth seasons of the Buffy the Vampire Slayer spinoff series Angel. My crush was pretty well solidified even when her body becomes inhabited by the evil demon Illyria. Fred, by the way, was short for Winifred and it didn’t diminish her charming and sweet nature one iota. The question remained however as to whether Amy Acker, the actress who portrayed her, would be just as sweet and charming. Read the rest of this entry »

Boba Fetts

Wednesday, October 2nd, 2013

boba3For the casual viewer, the character of Boba Fett from the Star Wars universe borders on becoming an obscure, or at best a lesser-known character from the series. But the hardcore fans of the films just might get excited about this posting that details encounters with two of the actors who portrayed Boba Fett at the Hollyood Show in Burbank on February 11, 2012. But if you fall in the former category and wish to read on, I’ll apprise you of the character by telling you that he is a bounty hunter hired by Darth Vader in the second two entries of the series, The Empire Strikes Back and The Return of the Jedi.
