Lupus?! Is It Lupus?!

Sunday, March 10th, 2013

pl3I can’t resist a good Seinfeld quote for a title, this one relating to George Costanza’s irrational fear of contracting systemic lupus erythematosus when a psychic advises him not to take a trip to the Cayman Islands. But this has absolutely zero to do with the subject of this posting. The posting has to do with actor Peter Lupus – best known for his role as Willy Armitage on the TV series Mission: Impossible. Well… I say that is what he is best known for, but some out there may know him because he was the first well-known male actor to pose fully nude for Playgirl Magazine. I had cursory knowledge of the former when I met him, no knowledge of the latter. Read the rest of this entry »

Jimmy McNichol

Thursday, March 7th, 2013

jm4I can’t honestly say that I remember seeing Jimmy McNichol move much in the past. That is to say, I don’t recall any television shows or movies in which he appeared prior to meeting him at the Hollywood Show on January 12, 2013. Back then, I only knew him from photographs. After I got returned from California, in a remarkable twist of fate, I saw him in motion – accidentally – for the first time in an episode of Little House on the Prairie as one of the Ingalls girls’ classmates, Harry Baker. In fact, I saw him in three episodes during the first season. Read the rest of this entry »

Gentlemen Huggers

ge6I haven’t made any secret of my affinity for the TV series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, and it’s episodes like the incredibly creepy, freaky, and utterly original Hush that explain why. This particular episode aired in 1999 and caused nightmares the world over with some of scariest creatures ever to grace any screen. Even apart from the originality of making the monsters steal the voices of our heroes (thus rendering the episode mostly silent), are the Gentlemen themselves, which were inspired by a nightmare the show’s creator Joss Whedon had as a child. The characters immediately became iconic, and thus getting the chance to meet two of them was quite cool indeed. Read the rest of this entry »

Hardy Boys & Girls

Thursday, February 21st, 2013

hb2If the Hardy Boys series from the 1970’s didn’t exude that timeless 1970’s feel, I would find it pretty difficult to sit through. Most of my memories of the show are relegated to seeing the cast routinely featured in the teen magazies of the era, the one’s I was purchasing because they featured KISS. Truth be told, I actually prefer the Hardy Boys serials from the Mickey Mouse Club that starred Tim Considine and Tommy Kirk. In all, there were five series that featured our favorite (well, YOUR favorite) mystery-solvers. But the one I’m going to focus on is the second most recent, The Hardy Boys/Nancy Drew Mysteries that ran for three seasons from 1977-1979, right in the thick of the disco era.
