x702.jpgCarolyn and I started putting out a ‘Christmas Newsletter’ in 2003 highlighting memorable events from the year. Last year I thought it would be neat to include a page of “Christmas Memories” from our younger days. To my astonishment, she was not able to locate one single photo of her at Christmas as a little girl. I was incredulous. img043.jpgIt’s funny to watch the evolution of a kid’s reactions to Santa. The first one is usually utter terror. My first shots of Ashleigh with Santa showcase a bawling mass of quivering baby. By the second or third year, there is usually rapt fascination with this jolly, bearded legend. Then follows pure euphoria at the prospect of telling Santa what you want for Christmas. Children learn fast that Santa is their bread and butter when it comes to receiving gifts on Christmas morning. I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas Tree

xmx.jpgI am endlessly fascinated by nostalgic photographs depicting my family at Christmas. Not only the ones with me in them, but also snapshots that include my parents and relatives…well, heck anyone who stood in front of a tree in the fifties or sixties is alright with me – especially trees in your traditional white or silver variations. The gifts from that era are really cool to gawk at too. For instance in the shot below from Christmas 1960, we can see all the neat games and toys that would fetch a pretty penny on eBay today, nestled under the tree and ready to be destroyed.
