Fiesta at Karen and Joe’s New Casa

kar5.jpgI was a bit late in arriving at Karen and Joe’s new house in Kettering on Coke Avenue. Chris and Sarah had come over that Saturday afternoon of June 23, 2007, and watched Hitchcock’s Shadow of a Doubt. Their original intention was to watch Rebecca but it was longer and would have made us later. Sarah prepared her snacks in the kitchen for the latter half of the movie while an unimpressed Chris and I finished watching it. ira4.jpgThese interesting photos from our 1985 Florida trip tell the story of our visit with Ira and Mildred at the Teakwood Village mobile home in Largo, less than ten miles south of where we were staying in Clearwater Beach. All eight of us went: Bill, Dottie, Dad, Mom, Lora, Robby, Denise, and me. We played a rousing game of scrabble and sipped on ginger ale. Mildred made snacks for us. Dad didn’t play because he never plays games. Not sure why Denise didn’t play but she was probably fiddling with the organ. mem5.jpgThe warm, sticky air and the coming of the “J” months heralded the onslaught of Summer. And as if just to prove that it was coming, it was time to celebrate Memorial Day – the kickoff to swimming, laying out, cookouts, non-stop air conditioners, and long Summer walks. These are all things that before last Summer I wanted no part of (except for the air conditioners of course), but now am feverishly looking forward to. Denise wisely chose to hold her picnic on the Sunday before the actual holiday this year. This would give everyone a day to relax and recuperate on the holiday itself: Monday, May 28.
