Valley Forge and Westward

Sunday, November 8th, 2009

al11Everyone familiar with my website knows that I am a sucker for a trip down memory lane. So when the opportunity presented itself to swing by for a visit to the site of the 1986 Valley Forge Sons of the Desert convention, I jumped at it. In fact, the fact that I was traveling with my friend Bob Satterfield was the icing on the cake, because it was here that I first met Bob. So we traveled from our last location in Perkasie, Pennsylvania and at about 9:00pm that night of Thursday, June 17, 2009, we pulled up the the hotel to behold the majesty of the memories of what once was. Charleston, South Carolina ’09

Saturday, October 31st, 2009

af27I had only been back in Myrtle Beach for one evening – and we were already taking another road trip to a nearby city. A group of us had taken the jaunt to Charleston, South Carolina, two years earlier and visited Fort Sumter – but at the time I wasn’t visiting the graves of the Vice Presidents, so that was my primary motivation for returning here again. Besides, it’s a cool place. Aaron and Bob also wanted to see it as they hadn’t visited before. So I quite enjoyed Thursday, June 17, 2009, as Bob and I made our way into the northern portion of New Jersey via motorcar in the driving rain. Even though we had to frequently hop out of the car in the downpour, we both had our umbrellas so we didn’t do much complaining. Read the rest of this entry »

Central New Jersey ’09

Sunday, October 18th, 2009

an21Bob and I had visited Atlantic City, New Jersey on Monday, but we didn’t really get to see a lot of New Jersey until Wednesday and Thursday that week. The morning of Wednesday, June 17, 2009, we had seen the remainder of the sites we need to see in Philadelphia, had lunch in Bristol, Pennsylvania, and then made the short trek to our first destination in Jersey, the capitol building in Trenton. Just as we were arriving at around noon, I got some irritating news from home from Heidi who was feeding my cats. Ashleigh had had friends over after the debacle of my previous trip. This put a bit of a damper on the rest of the day for me. Read the rest of this entry »
