The Living Tinkerbell

Tuesday, April 12th, 2011

Perhaps you’re wondering how a real life actress can get the credit as playing Tinkerbell in the 1953 Walt Disney animated classic Peter Pan, especially since Tinkerbell didn’t talk in the film. Well here’s how: In the early days of Disney animation, live actors were hired to pantomime the movements of their on-screen counterparts. Margaret Kerry was the actress who was tapped to be old Tink. But to solidify her presence in the actual film, she also provided the voice of one of the red-headed mermaid in the Neverland lagoon. But when I first met Margaret Kerry, I didn’t really know much about her involvement with Peter Pan. Read the rest of this entry »

Knowing Virginia

Saturday, April 2nd, 2011

Knowing Virginia Karns Patterson was truly one of the most unique and fulfilling experiences in my life. I had met many celebrities – mostly in the Laurel & Hardy and Our Gang realm – up to that point, but never had I carried on a true friendship with any of them. Virginia was mostly known for her role as Mother Goose in the 1934 Laurel & Hardy film Babes in Toyland. She also had supporting roles in several other Hal Roach short subjects which included Four Parts (Charley Chase series), Soup and Fish (Todd-Kelly series), and Music in Your Hair (starring Billy Gilbert and Billy Bletcher). The good news was that I had managed to time my cruise just right that I could head out to Los Angeles immediately after it ended and attend the winter Hollywood Show on Saturday, February 12, 2011. The bad news was that unlike most shows that I’ve attended over the last few years that had over 100 celebrities, this show had less than 70 scheduled. The Lovely Della Lind

Tuesday, February 8th, 2011

Although I had met Della Lind, leading lady from the Laurel and Hardy feature Swiss Miss, six years prior (at the Hollywood ’80 convention, seen here), I had never gotten her to sign a photo for me – just her signature in my little blue autograph book. So following the 1986 Valley Forge convention – and my re-immersion in all things Laurel and Hardy – the first autograph request I sent out after I had returned from the trip was to Della Lind. I had picked up three great photos and was anxious to add Della to my big fat photo album that was quickly filling up with signed pictures. Read the rest of this entry »

End of Summer 2006

Saturday, January 29th, 2011

This posting will be the last in the series of ‘missing links’ of 2006. I began the website on September 13 and thereafter chronicled two vacations from the summer that had just ended, but didn’t pick up the time period in the middle, so here I bridge the gap between August 6 and September 12. My Myrtle Beach posting did mention that in between the two vacations I opened our first Marketplace store on July 20 and that Ashleigh attended the NYC (National Youth Conference) week in Colorado of July 23-28. We left for Myrtle Beach the next day. What it did not mention was that Briana spent her first week at Woodland Altars from July 16-22. Read the rest of this entry »
