The end of any Sons of the Desert convention is always a little bit sad, and this one had been particularly fun. Bob had an idea to make this one a little more palatable though, as even after it ended on the morning of Sunday, July 6, 2014, with the standard Farewell Brunch and passing of the Pineapple and all that good stuff, it wasn’t really over. That morning David and I got up and ready at his place and were on the road around 8:30 back to the Loews. I bid farewell to David’s cat Flo, which turned out to be the last time I saw him, as he passed away later that month. So these winter trips to California… old hat by now? Not by a long shot. There’s just so much to see and do, and with a little planning beforehand, it’s possible to keep busy and enjoy myself every minute of every trip. Yes, of course it was the Hollywood Show that brought me out there again in dead of winter, but once again I was able to stretch the visit to a four-day extravaganza of sorts. It won’t be the last Winter L.A. trip nor will it be the last one in 2018, but it was a unique one in its own right.  Read the rest of this entry »

hw2It was nice that the previous day had been rather low-key and relaxing, because this the fourth day of Laurel and Hardywood on Saturday, July 5, 2014, would be anything but… especially for David and me. We got up nice and early that morning and made our way from his house in Burbank to the Loew’s, meeting up with everyone in the lobby before 9am.
