Re-Re-Animated (From Beyond)

Tuesday, December 11th, 2012

Re-Animator is one of the most enjoyable disgusting movies ever made. Where else can you expect to find a body carrying around it’s own severed head, forcing its/his affections on a naked girl strapped to a table? Probably nowhere. When I first met Bruce Abbott, the actor playing the most normal person in the film, I lamented to myself how much I’d love to meet the actor playing Herbert West, perhaps one of the strangest characters ever committed to any film. That day would eventually come over three years later on August 12, 2012. Read the rest of this entry »

The Original Halloween Killers

Wednesday, November 28th, 2012

Lest you think that the original 1978 Halloween film fall into the category of slasher schlock like most of its successors, I implore you to consider the fact that it was selected in 2006 for preservation in the United States Film Registry by the Library of Congress as being “culturally, historically, or aesthetically significant.” To me, this means that it is a classic film, and thus certainly worthy of inclusion in any film library. And what’s more, this also means that I take great interest in meeting anyone who appeared in a classic film such as this. It also mean that I had a rip-roaring time at the Horrorhound Weekend in Indianapolis on Saturday, November 17, 2012. This posting will kick off a series of Halloween reunions and celebrities that appeared at this show. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m (With) The King of the World

Saturday, October 6th, 2012

Whether you think the 1997 James Cameron feature film version of Titanic is an unequaled masterpiece or that it sunk like…well, the Titanic, you can’t deny that it has earned its place as a massive icon of pop culture. I happened to like it despite some of its shortcomings, and thus, if I get a chance to meet someone in the film, I take it. Danny Nucci isn’t quite the household name that Leonardo DiCaprio is, but nevertheless his character Fabrizio De Rossi is right there alongside of him when they board the Titanic together at the beginning of the film, earning his place in film – and Oscar – history. Jason Is Everywhere

Thursday, September 27th, 2012

In the Friday the 13th franchise, it seems that Jason Voorhees is everywhere the victims turn, behind closed doors, busting through windows, around every corner, hiding under water, in the back seat of a car, and on and on. I’ve had a similar experience in real life with several Jason encounters this year, but fortunately mine have been considerably more pleasant. Being a fan of the series is most certainly a guilty pleasure as horror most certainly my favorite genre, but for guys like me who grew up in the 1980’s, Friday the 13th was just a part of life. Aliens Humans

Tuesday, September 25th, 2012

If you’re a huge fan of the James Cameron film Aliens, then you really missed out if you weren’t at the Horrorhound Weekend in Indianapolis this summer. I attended on Sunday, September 7, 2012, although I’m not what you would call a ‘huge’ fan of the film. But I certainly liked it quite a bit, and now that I’ve met several of the cast members, it demands and a repeat viewing. There were seven of the main cast members in all. I skipped on two of the lesser ones, Ricco Ross (who played, get this, Ricco Frost) and Cynthia Scott (who had been Corporal Cynthia Dietrich). Sadly I missed Michael Biehn, who had only been present at the show on Saturday. And I had already met Lance Henriksen last year. Read the rest of this entry »
