The Sound of Von Trapp Kids

I’ve added another item to my list of pre-death accomplishments that I’d like to achieve. Having grown up with the periodic screenings and then a VHS recording of The Sound of Music, I’ve always had the hope of meeting all of the Von Trapp children at some time or other. While we’re at it, I wouldn’t snub Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer if I ran into either of them either. If you have any doubt about the sincerity of my love for the film, just check out my 2008 visit to many of the film’s locations in Salzburg, Austria. My track record of meeting the cast of the film, however, isn’t quite as stellar. And unfortunately this posting won’t add any new ones to the list. But I thought I would take this chance to show off the few photos and signatures that I do have – along with the reminder of my two Von Trapp encounters (one of them whom I just got to meet a second time). One of my favorites of the classic 80’s teenage boobie films is the 1984 movie Revenge of the Nerds. It fit right into the mold of some of the other raunchy comedies of the era, while possessing extremely likable characters and a good heart. So I was pretty ecstatic that the Hollywood Show that I attended on Saturday, October 9, 2010, was having a Revenge of the Nerds reunion of a half-dozen cast members. Had Don Gibb, the large fellow who played Ogre, shown up as he was scheduled to do, we would have had seven. This posting will highlight the first three. 
I knew that it would behoove me to bring along a large wad of cash to the Hollywood Show held at the Burbank Mariott Hotel and Convention Center on Saturday, April 24, and Sunday, April 25, 2010. The collector and celebrity show in Burbank must certainly be one of the largest in the country. The one on this date was the fifth one I’ve attended over the past five years (seventh total) and I must say that it was the best show I’ve seen to date. I usually pontificate on the greediness of the some of the celebrities, but I’m going to spare you that this time. After all, no matter if there were a few putzes in the mix, I came away happy…albeit much poorer.
