Mom Was Young, Too

img770.jpgThe last three nostalgic photo entries I have made are of my Dad or from his side of the family. Not playing favorites, his photos are more unique because of the uncharacteristic use of color for the 1950’s and early 1960’s. But of course black and white photos have their place, too. More Photos from the Enchanted Voyage

evoyage.jpgI just recently acquired a large set of my Dad’s slides from the early 1970’s, which will go a long way to fill in some of the gaps of my early ’70’s timeline. Among the slides were shots from a 1973 visit to Kings Island. A couple of the K.I. shots will be seen in future postings, but here are a few shots from inside the Enchanted Voyage, a ride from the 1970’s talked about in great detail here.

Enchanted Memories

finalsmall.jpgIn Dayton, the closest major family entertainment empire is the nearby Kings Island amusement park, nestled in the outskirts of Cincinnati, Ohio. Naturally, as I have grown older, the theme park has become less and less enjoyable. I am now much more susceptible to the heat, the headaches and nausea from the fast rides, and the stench of smoke, sweat, and body odor in the long, claustrophobic lines.

I hope this description does not make you think that the park is not fun though. When I was a kid, going to Kings Island was like visiting Walt Disney World’s younger brother (in an equation where Disney World = Heaven). And during those younger years – from about 1975-1980 – the pinaccle of this paradise was The Enchanted Voyage. Read the rest of this entry »
