The Early 1990’s

Friday, October 6th, 2006

img525.jpgThis period seems very colorful and very bizarre to me. As I think about it, I can recall it vividly and put things back in order – but I realize that I was lost during this time of my life. There are plenty of great memories but it seems that I was playing a chaotic series of roles: father, college student, party animal, movie geek, alternative hippie, and naive potential businessman. I had no real relationships to speak of after Christi and I broke up in the Summer of 1991 until late 1994 so this may be why it is difficult to define this period in one particular way. I was all over the place. Read the rest of this entry »

The Wheels of Motion

wedding2.jpgI can’t make too many observations about 1970 because no matter how you work the math, I wasn’t in existence yet. But in order for me to be conceived and born, fate had to bring my parents together at least for a few minutes. Actually, it was considerably longer than that.

They met in October 1969 at CYPC, a Catholic Young People’s Club (usually referred to simply as ‘the club’). Although my Dad wasn’t Catholic, he was brought along by his friend Frank to attend an event. My Dad initially began dating a girl named Mary that he met at the club before meeting my Mom. Frank ended up marrying Mary and they are still together.  Read the rest of this entry »

Maranatha 2

Wednesday, October 4th, 2006

When you last heard about the Georgia trip from this Summer, Bob, Ashleigh, and I were staying at the Plains Historic Inn. On Sunday morning, July 9, we got up early and headed just up the road about a mile to the Maranatha Baptist Church.

We got there about 7:15am and found there were only four or five people there before us. The Secret Service had not finished securing the building so they were casing the area with their bomb-sniffing dogs. Waiting in line is never too boring as Miss Jan will always come out and brief the crowd on what to expect (metal detectors, camera inspections) and not-to-expect (autographs, conversations with President Carter). There are always other visitors in line from out of town to strike up conversations with. Read the rest of this entry »

“The Wax Apple” Goes Live

Tuesday, October 3rd, 2006

waxapple.jpgLast night, Jimmy and I completed about one month’s worth of work on our Laurel and Hardy website “The Wax Apple.” It is likely that most people will be linking to this website from there, but I’m giving you the opportunity to have it the other way around. Even if you don’t like Laurel and Hardy, you should check out the color scheme we came up with. Jimmy did an outstanding job of designing this extremely attractive site. You can find it at www.waxapple.org .

At Last I Am Born

birthfoot.jpgThe country was still reeling on October 2, 1971 (exactly 35 years ago today). A major theme park had just opened the day before in Orlando. It was called Walt Disney World and I would remain close friends with it to this day.

I came into this world at 9:10pm. My Dad was in the waiting room watching All in the Family (Archie and the Lock-Up for the record). My Mom had been put under, so I virtually came into the world alone with no one to fuss over me. My my, how nothing has changed.

I weighed 7 lbs. 14 oz., a healthy size with a full head of blonde hair. At least it was blonde by the time my parents actually saw me and all the muck had been cleaned away. Read the rest of this entry »
