hat4.jpgOur Spring Myrtle Beach trip commenced on March 17, 2007 at about 9:30 am. As this was Adam’s first long trip away from home, we decided to make the trek in two days, traveling at a leisurely pace, stopping when we needed to, and then spending the night in Spartanburg, South Carolina. The ride down was mostly uneventful, with my trusty iPod providing our tunes and Wendy’s providing our lunch. Read the rest of this entry »

Vegasbound Vagabonds

veg8.jpgI’m not much of a gambler as you will surely tell from this posting, which describes my exploits as Bob and I ran amuck in Las Vegas. Following the Hoover Dam excursion, we headed toward Vegas, but made several stops on our way. First, we stopped at Cinema Collectors in Henderson, a shop specializing in movie star photos that was formerly located in Hollywood. Siesta Key 1980: The Condo

siesta3.jpgSecond grade had ended and I was unleashed upon the first Summer of the 1980’s. In June we took our first vacation of the year – to my Dad’s company-owned condo in Siesta Key, Florida. Darlene went with us, which upped the excitablilty factor even more. Read the rest of this entry »

Postcards from Grandpa F – Part 3

pcard5.jpgHere are the remaining two (out of six) postcards that my Grandpa wrote to my Grandma during his 1937 excursion to Colorado before they were married. The first one was written on Monday, August 16 and mailed from Golden. Here he mentions seeing Buffalo Bill’s gravesite. I’m glad to know I’m not the only one in the family who is interested in ‘famous graves’. The second and final card, describes the experience of going up into Pikes Peak. carter2.jpgI’m not sure what prompted me to actually attempt writing to a former President, but I feel it was probably my most successful attempt to date. I sent my request to President Carter on August 14, 1985. Although his birthday was not until October 1st, I sent along a birthday card anyway, explaining that my birthday was one day after his – and it didn’t seem too far away. He responded by sending me the letter below along with a beautiful 8 x 10 photo on high-quality photographic paper. I received this on August 28 – and he apparently agreed that our birthdays didn’t seem too far away either – as you will note from the inscription.  Read the rest of this entry »
