Bev and Ed: The Beginning of Many Great Years
Monday, December 10th, 2007The first wedding that I ever attended was on May 20, 1972. My aunt Bev was marrying a fellow that she had met at the Catholic Young Person’s Club (CYPC), the same organization in which my parents had met. My future uncle, young Ed Tangeman was attending an outdoor volleyball game in late October of 1971 with his friend Mike Kennedy, a guy who Bev knew through my aunt Diana and my Mom. Bev was there with Mary Stoff (also a friend of my parents) and her ears immediately perked up when she heard that there was a guy there named ‘Ed’ – it seems that the last three guys in whom she had been interested were also named Ed. Saturday, December 8th, 2007It was a distinct privilege to be able to meet Lucille Hardy Price, the widow of one of my two biggest idols, Oliver Hardy. I can’t say that I really ever got the chance to know her, as she passed away in 1986 before I had thrust myself into interviewing and getting to know some of the celebrites who worked with Laurel and Hardy and in the Our Gang Comedies. But I feel as if I am very acquainted with her because of the many interviews with her that I have read and seen, as well as first-hand accounts from many of my friends who certainly did know her. William Henry Harrison and Me
Friday, December 7th, 2007William Henry Harrison became our nation’s ninth President on March 4, 1841. Just thirty-one days later he passed away from pneumonia resulting from giving an incredibly long inauguration speech in the biting cold weather. This, unfortunately, was Harrison’s biggest claim to fame – being the first President to die in office, having the shortest term, and being the oldest President ever elected (until Ronald Reagan broke his record in 1980). Before his short-lived Presidency, he held many imporant roles as well – not the least of which was Governor of the Indiana Territory and as an Ohio Senator, but we will never know what Harrison might accomplished as our country’s Chief Executive.
