Louise and Carroll’s House 1981

Sunday, March 7th, 2010

I have only the most fleeting memory that we went on vacations back-to-back during August of 1981, so fleeting in fact that it would never hold up in court. However, I have one clue that our trip to visit my Mom’s Aunt Louise and Uncle Carroll immediately followed our trip to Detroit for the Classic Chevy Convention. This piece of evidence is a calendar from 1981, with the dates August 2 – August 8 marked as vacation. This was the Chevy Convention week. But the following week, August 9-15, indicates absolutely nothing at all. Every other week of the Summer has other appointments, sporting events, and reminders – but this one has nothing at all. So I’m pegging this trip as August 9-15…give or take a day on either end. Read the rest of this entry »

Consensus from friends and family is pretty much becoming unanimous: February is the lamest month of the year. Although I did enjoy a nice California vacation in 2007 during February, both 2008 and 2009 – and now this year – have contributed to giving the month this unique distinction. So why is it so lame you ask? Well, for starters the weather in Ohio is the biggest contributor. We see our biggest snowfalls, do the most shoveling, and traditionally develop the greatest number of sicknesses. Read the rest of this entry »

I Dream of Jeannie’s Autograph

Thursday, March 4th, 2010

As a huge fan and collector of all episodes of I Dream of Jeannie, I am thrilled to have autographed photos all three of the principals of the show. In fact I met Larry Hagman and his co-star Bill Daily both in 2009. Unfortunately, I have not been so lucky with Barbara Eden. She was, however, kind enough to sign a nice cheesecake photo of herself back in the latter part of 1997.  It is unfortunate that I didn’t get her to sign the photo from the show first– and then add Hagman’s signature later. As it is, I’ll have to be satisfied with the lone autographed photo from Barbara Eden seen below. At least her belly button is visible. Read the rest of this entry »

The World of Sid & Marty Krofft

Tuesday, March 2nd, 2010

When I first wrote this posting that was originally titled “The World of Marty Krofft,” I stated that I was hoping that one day I might be able to change the title of this posting to “The World of Sid & Marty Krofft.” This was the name of a short-lived amusement park that the famous sibling producers helped design in Atlanta. In fact, both brothers were slated to appear at the July 18, 2009, Hollywood Show in Burbank – but unfortunately Sid had to cancel out. Marty made his appearance, with the money he was charging for signed photos going to charity. As you’ll note in the update below, however, I eventually did have reason to change the title.   Read the rest of this entry »

Dad’s 1957 Chevy

Sunday, February 28th, 2010

Having conquered the world of 1949 Hudsons, Dad decided to move on to a much hipper classic hot rod in May of 1981. We had joined the Gem City Classics Classic Chevy Club at the end of 1980, attending the Christmas banquet as our first meeting – and it wasn’t long before Dad got the itch to join the ranks of classic Chevy (defined as 1955, 1956, or 1957) owners. For the tidy sum of $1800 he purchased a 1957 Chevrolet Two Ten, and when winter rolled around again that year, he began restoring it. Read the rest of this entry »
