Hot Pippi

When I was a boy about five or six years old, my Mom used to take me to the movies to see the ‘latest’ installment of the Pippi Longstocking films. It was probably only once or twice, but it seemed like we went to see them a lot. I loved Pippi and her sense of frivolity, and I’ve since reconnected with the movies via DVD and had some vivid memories and some of the scenes, and still enjoyed the whimsical fun. I didn’t know it then of course, but interestingly these were actually Swedish TV series episodes from the late 1960’s that had been strung together. I would love to meet the original Pippi, Inger Nilsson, as well as the actor and actress who played the young Tommy and Annika, but so far that has yet to be.  Read the rest of this entry »

The Fate of Alice Garvey

alice1Fans of Little House on the Prairie typically remember the show as fun and at times whimsical, but also will recall being moved to tears on many occasions. In fact at times the trials that the Ingalls family and their friends could be downright horrific. Perhaps there was no other storyline that even approached the anguish as the Season 6 episode when Albert inadvertently started a fire in the school for the blind. Jonathan Garvey’s wife Alice went up in flames as we watched her desperately try to beat her way out of the window holding Mary Ingalls’ baby, who also perished. Read the rest of this entry »
