Chester the Scene Stealer

One of my favorite go-to films when I want to laugh is Seems Like Old Times starring Chevy Chase, Goldie Hawn, and Charles Grodin. This trio is superb, but they are also swimming in a sea of scene-stealers in their supporting cast, chief among them was T.K. Carter who played the ‘recovering thief’ Chester, whom Goldie’s sympathetic character groomed into her chauffeur. T.K. gets all of my attention in every scene he is in, and that pretty goes for anytime he appears onscreen in any film. Read the rest of this entry »
It’s always a spectacular day when I get to meet a member of one of the Big 7 bands, even if I had already met them before. In this case, I had once actually met the entire band Cheap Trick way back in 1992, and even had them all sign my CD of Dream Police. I had gotten multiple autographs of guitarist Rick Nielsen, and lead singer Robin Zander had scrawled his signature on a piece of Cheap Trick artwork that I had made in art class an brought along to hold up during the show. The entire experience was spectacular, and had I been able to actually locate the photos I took (fingers crossed that they will eventually turn up among my junkpile…er, archives), you’ll hear much more about the whole experience. 
OK, I’m being totally honest here. Sure, I can use Google, Wikipedia, and the imdb like a pro, and I knew one day I’d get around to it. But at the time that I met Mamie Van Doren at the Hollywood Show on April 20, 2013, the only thing I knew for sure about her was that there was no way that Mamie Van Doren was her real name. And yet I was perfectly willing to shell out $20 to get a signed photo of her that included a free photo op with both Carolyn and me. Why, you might ask? Because her name sounded so exotic and familiar that I just knew she had to be somebody.
