mgm8.jpgWe were a bit sluggish on the morning of Tuesday, September 25, 2007. Afterall we had just completed a full journey around The Magic Kingdom the day before. Besides, Denise was feeling crummy. Or maybe I should say crummier. She had had some stomach violations since the start of the trip, but this day appeared to be the worst. Trooper that she was, she pressed on and rode all of the rides during this vomitous affair. Even with all of this in mind, we were able to board our bus at the resort, make the trip there, and get into the park’s front gates by 9:30am.

Mom and Bob were staying back at our Pop Century resort and babysitting Adam for the day, so it was just the four of us. Since Denise was feeling blech, we opted to start out with a ride that was even slower than the bus ride to the park, The Great Movie Ride, a strange, exotic journey through the movies – via animatronics of famous characters throughout screen history. The movie montage at the end had been changed to add new film clips, but I was glad to see it still included a scene from Laurel and Hardy’s The Live Ghost.

Getting ready to enter The Great Movie Ride

Since the nearby Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster was closed for refurbishment (hopefully they will replace Aerosmith with KISS or Depeche Mode), and Denise knew she had to get it over with sometime, we headed to The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror. This is Ashleigh’s favorite ride and it ranks right up there for the rest of us too. So imagine Denise’s state -with an already-queasy stomach – sitting inside this elevator bound for terror, free-falling no less than a half-dozen times, and then getting off the ride…and doing it all over again. We simply felt we must what with the line being non-existant.

Nothing’s gonna save us from the big drop…

We then headed for The Voyage of the Little Mermaid, but couldn’t catch it in time, so we visited Journey Into Narnia, a thoroughly lame plug for the upcoming sequel to The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. We were led into a snowy-looking large room, where some of the characters from the film came out and said something. The we saw a preview to the sequel and were headed into another room. I thought it might be cool at this point, but the ‘other room’ turned out to be the exit.

The malcontented Denise shows her sickly side as we wait for our Journey Into Narnia

After we exited, we headed straight back to the always-enjoyable Voyage of the Little Mermaid. This Ariel was pretty hot, but I’ve seen hotter Ariels. Sitting very close up front made it obvious that she wore a red wig, lip-synched all of the songs, and wasn’t really a fish.

Finally it was time for Muppet Vison 3-D, my favorite of all of the Disney 3-D movies from the parks. Always seems fresh and clever no matter how many times I see it. And it always gives Denise and me the opportunity to add the phrase “Threee-Deeee” in Kermit’s voice to everything we say.

Upon exit, we got lost on the Streets of America backlot…always so confusing. We considered riding Star Tours, but unlike all the other rides, this one was not a walk-on. That fact, coupled with Denise’s ever-churning belly-section, clinched our decision to grab some lunch at the ABC Commissary and bid farewell to this theme park.

Ashleigh lost in New York

After a hearty and delicious lunch, we headed out of The Disney-MGM Studios. Ashleigh decided that she now wanted some mouse-ears of her own, so she unsuccessfully looked for those, while I made my traditional browse of Sid Cahuenga’s One-of-a-Kind Antiques and Curios, the overpriced Hollywood autograph and memorabila shop that makes me feel rich with my collection.

We then headed to Epcot, coming up next…

  1. Had the Rock’n’Roller Coaster been open for us to ride, it would probably need to be renamed “Rock’n’Roller Coaster Threee Deeeee” since my vomit would have spewed forth during this ride.

Did you notice how my complexion matches my green shirt in these photos?

  2. Rob and I were going to go to Disney World in May last year, but we couldn’t 🙁 I still have never been there!
