kane3Okay, this was admittedly my own doing, but Jason almost killed me. I like a good slasher film as much as the next guy and the Friday the 13th franchise is no exception – so I was rather intrigued at the opportunity to meet the guy who played the hockey mask toting psycho killer the most times when he made an appearance at the Chiller Theatre Show in Parsippany, New Jersey, on April 18, 2009. Kane Hodder starred as Jason in four of the Friday the 13th films (parts XII – X) from 1988 – 2002.

For being a mad slasher killer, he was a fairly nice guy. He was more than willing to pose for a picture after I bought one of his signed photos. Lucky for me, a fan standing nearby was holding a hockey mask and was nice enough to lend it to me to get a photo. My first request was to get a photo of him strangling me. This is where he almost killed me.

Now there may have been the added mental element of knowing that this guy was in fact Jason – the Jason – but he squeezed so hard and had so much power that I swear if he had gone one more millimeter my eyes would have popped out of my head. So if you look carefully, you may note a real sense of vulnerability and fear in the photo below.

Of course, then we did the standard pose just to show that all was well between us and he really wasn’t going to turn my head into a meat by-product.

Of note also is that Kane Hodder – along with a huge gathering of the other nine or ten actors who had portrayed Jason – all appeared together at the Hollywood Celebrity show that I attended on July 18, 2009. In a case like this however, it would have pointless to just get autographs from one or some of these stuntmen, and I certainly wasn’t going to shell out enough to get all of them – so I bypassed them altogether.

Once you’ve been nearly killed by the guy who was Jason the most times, you’re pretty much done.
