It is definitely my affinity for Superman that led me to put actor Julian Sands on my list of celebrities to meet whist attending the Hollywood Show on Saturday, April 2, 2011. He had portrayed Jor-El in the modern-day Superman interpretation phenomenon known as Smallville. He was, in fact, the second actor who had portrayed Jor-El that I had the opportunity to meet, following George Lazenby (who actually played an alien disguised as Jor-El in the Superboy TV series, and was better known as James Bond in On Her Majesty’s Secret Service).

He’s no Marlon Brando, but Julian Sands is a seasoned actor in his own right, even outside of the Smallville experience, having starred in such films as The Killing Fields, Boxing Helena, A Room with a View, and Arachnophobia. But naturally, I picked out a photo of him as Jor-El to have signed (as shown at the top of the posting). it was $25 ,but he was a nice guy and didn’t charge extra for a photo with him. Overall I was glad to see him hanging around on Earth, where us primitives are thousands of years behind him.

  1. Did you see A Room With A View? It’s got some good views of Florence.
