Not being a tremendous fan of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, it was no surprise that I nearly held out in my haggling with Patricia Quinn, who portrayed Magenta in the film, over the cost of getting a signed glossy and an photo with her. However, knowing the cult status of the film and the fact that it is Ms. Quinn’s lips that were used in the promotional posters and material related to the film’s release, I caved a bit and paid the $30 for the combo (although the original price was $40). Her handler was pretty nice though and invited Jamie to get into one of the pictures as well, so we got a bit of a two-fer there.
Our meeting came at the Chicago Hollywood Show on October 1, 2011. I already mentioned the lips that she bore in the promo material, but it was also her lips that can be seen in the film lip synching to the opening song Science Fiction/Double Feature.
Other roles in the lip’s..er, Patricia Quinn’s…repertoire include I,Claudius and Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life. Quite simply, it was one of those scenarios in which I didn’t want to regret not springing for this encounter if the day ever comes when I truly appreciate Rocky Horror. Plus Jamie had fun jumping in the picture, even if she had no idea who she was.
I’m gonna give you some terrible thrills!
Celebrity encounters of the Fall 2011 Chicago Hollywood Show will conclude in the next posting…
It’s kinda odd that Magenta signed her name on Columbia’s arm.
If you haven’t seen it we can watch it some time and throw rice and toast at each other.

I am a big Rocky Horror fan so I think this was a wise investment. Although Riff Raff is my favorite character Magenta is most definitely my 2nd fav. (I didn’t know those were her lips. You learn something new every day.)
