Hot Pippi

Tuesday, January 24th, 2017

When I was a boy about five or six years old, my Mom used to take me to the movies to see the ‘latest’ installment of the Pippi Longstocking films. It was probably only once or twice, but it seemed like we went to see them a lot. I loved Pippi and her sense of frivolity, and I’ve since reconnected with the movies via DVD and had some vivid memories and some of the scenes, and still enjoyed the whimsical fun. I didn’t know it then of course, but interestingly these were actually Swedish TV series episodes from the late 1960’s that had been strung together. I would love to meet the original Pippi, Inger Nilsson, as well as the actor and actress who played the young Tommy and Annika, but so far that has yet to be.  Read the rest of this entry »

The Fate of Alice Garvey

Wednesday, November 16th, 2016

alice1Fans of Little House on the Prairie typically remember the show as fun and at times whimsical, but also will recall being moved to tears on many occasions. In fact at times the trials that the Ingalls family and their friends could be downright horrific. Perhaps there was no other storyline that even approached the anguish as the Season 6 episode when Albert inadvertently started a fire in the school for the blind. Jonathan Garvey’s wife Alice went up in flames as we watched her desperately try to beat her way out of the window holding Mary Ingalls’ baby, who also perished. Read the rest of this entry »

crow3For many years, Rochelle Davis was one of the most enigmatic actresses in the business. After her starring role as Sarah in the 1994 film The Crow, she dropped out of film, out of the public eye, and kind of out of any sense of a normal life.  Even though The Crow was both commercially and critically wildly successful, it will always remain an notorious film due to the fact that Brandon Lee was accidentally killed while making it. Goonies Never Charge

astin4Well that’s just not true, but thankfully in this case it was. Wizard World events can be maddening sometimes because when they offer pricey photo ops, you never really know going into it whether you can get around said professional photo ops and just snap a picture at the table for a lesser fee. Sometimes you can, sometimes you can’t. I definitely wanted a photo with Sean Astin, no question. He’s the son of Patty Duke, and adopted son John Astin, ‘possibly’ the real son of Desi Arnaz Jr., but most likely a third guy altogether as evidence by a genetics test. But really all of that is just interesting; Sean on his own did some pretty remarkable acting on his own over the years.  Read the rest of this entry »

Rocco as Rocco

Thursday, September 29th, 2016

ddr6My cousin Chris and I watched the move The Boondock Saints around Christmas of 2009, but it didn’t stick with me enough to ever be too thrilled about the celebrity shows that had reunions of the film, usually including Norman Reedus, Sean Patrick Flannery, and David Della Rocco. I did pick up Flannery at one such show because of some his other works, bypassing the other two. Reedus naturally took off toward the stratosphere of popularity once The Walking Dead took off, but David Della Rocco usually didn’t command much in the way of lines… or money.  Read the rest of this entry »
